Koi Restaurant on Sukhumvit Road, bangkok serves excellent and authentic Japanese food at reasonable prices.
Koi is a stylish restaurant conveniently located on Soi 26 Sukhumvit. It is easily accessed by Skytrain and metro and is close to many of the areas better hotels. As the name suggests, Koi is a Japanese restaurant but with a difference. Its Bangkok venue follows the successful format of its New York and Los Angeles sisters where its cuisine attracts a clientele that reads like an astronomical encyclopaedia of Hollywood and New York stars and glitterati. This place is hot and heaving, to be sure of a table book well in advance. And it is not just the food that is stunning. The décor is a knock out too; sleek and clean black minimalist lines mark this restaurant out from the rest. The furniture has been made especially for the restaurant giving it a comfortable lounge feel. The service just like the food is excellent and unobtrusive the dedicated hostesses are pleased to guide you through the restaurant to your table. Japanese Fusion FoodKoi’s cuisine is best described as Japanese fusion with a west coast American touch so this is more Japan-California than Japan-Tokyo, but the flavours and textures of original Japanese cuisine are maintained even through the stronger flavours favoured by Bangkok’s own glitterati. The food is comfortably familiar with just a hint of cutting edge to excite the palate. The menu is extensive but not expensive this restaurant is kind on the palate and on the wallet. A rock lobster salad is only 660 baht (US$18, €14) an organic green salad a snip at 160 baht (US$4.50, €3.50). Grilled tofu and vegetables in sweet and spicy ginger sauce just 320 (US$9 , €7). Of course if you want to be a little more extravagant, you can certainly indulge here with nori crusted prawns with seared wagyu tenderloin and ginger soy glaze comes in at 2,300 baht (US$65, €65), but you will savour every mouthwatering morsel. But on average you can expect to be sated for around 1,800 baht (US$51, €38) per person While waiting to be seated at your table try sharpening your appetite at the bar, where a wasabi Martini is only 250 baht (US$7, €5,30). You will have never tasted Martini’s like this before, guaranteed. Koi is closed on Monday but is open every other day from six in the evening to midnight.
